All About Our Doodles

What is a Bernedoodle?

The Bernedoodle is a 50/50 mix of a purebred Bernese Mountain Doodle and a purebred Poodle. This combination is called the F1 Bernedoodle (or a first generation cross). It is believed that these puppies grow up to be much healthier than both of their parent breeds and that they display the most desirable mix of traits from both. It is even possible to have a Bernedoodle with more or less than 50 percent of each parent breed in its heritage if a first-generation Bernedoodle is mated with either a Poodle or a Bernese Mountain Dog.

F1b puppies are most likely to be low shedders and as a result, they’re the best match for owners who suffer from allergies.  For this type, a Bernedoodle is bred with a Poodle, so the Bernese genes are diluted to 25 percent, whereas the non-shedding Poodle gets a 75 percent stake in the F1b Bernedoodle’s ancestry. It’s all in the genes, as they say.

What is a Berenedoodle like?

The Bernese Mountain Dog is a gentle giant.  The breed is well known for being gentle, intelligent, loyal, great with kids, excellent temperament and works well with other pets.  The only downside we find with purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs is the shedding and slobbering, which can cause problems for people with allergies. That's why we breed the Bernedoodles- the Poodle mix eliminates most of the shedding and slobbering found in Bernese Mountain Dogs. Poodles are also smart and protective, but not aggressive. The combination of the two breeds makes for the perfect family pet.  The Bernedoodle is a fun, athletic, and highly social breed.  They are very similar to the Goldendoodle but more loyal and laid back.

What size is a Bernedoodle?

The Bernedoodle sizing varies, depending on the parents genetics. The standards range from 65 lbs and up, the minis from 50 lbs and under, and our micros at 25 lbs. and under

What colors do Bernedoodles come in?

Bernedoodles are either solid colors, bi-colors, phantom, parti, merle or tri colored.  They do come in other colors but these are the most common.  The Tri-color markings, which is the most desirable, is not always a guarantee.  This is why we request a secondary color choice.

What are Bernedoodles coats like?

Most Bernedoodles have long wavy coats that shed minimally.  Curly coats are also very common and these shed very little, like the poodles coat, and they are great for allergy sufferers.  Straight coat Bernedoodles are less common and they tend to shed more than wavy-or curly coated Bernedoodles. Currently, we are breeding F1, F1b, and F2 generations.

What is an Aussiedoodle?

The Aussiedoodle is a 50/50 mix of a purebred Australian Shepard and a purebred Poodle. This combination is called the F1 Aussiedoodle (or a first generation cross). Just like the Bernedoodle, It is believed that these puppies grow up to be much healthier than both of their parent breeds and that they display the most desirable mix of traits from both. F1b puppies are most likely to be low shedders and as a result, they’re the best match for owners who suffer from allergies.  For this type, a Aussiedoodle doodle is bred with a Poodle, so the Bernese genes are diluted to 25 percent, whereas the non-shedding Poodle gets a 75 percent stake in the F1b Aussiedoodle’s ancestry.  This usually results in curlier hair and less shedding.

What is an Aussiedoodle like?

This doodle is super smart and easy to train. Hence, you should provide them proper training as soon as you bring them home.  Some owners and breeders say that Aussiedoodles can almost read your mind. They are very intelligent and perceptive. Besides that, they are extremely loyal. And love bonding with their humans! In addition, Aussiedoodles need plenty of exercise as well as mental stimulation. Thus, if left alone for too long, they can become hyperactive or destructive. The Aussiedoodle is not an aggressive breed. On the contrary, they get along well with children and other pets. However, lots of exercise, playtime, interaction and attention is the key.

What size is an Aussiedoodle?

As with other doodles, the size of an Aussiedoodle is determined by its parents. For instance, Toy Aussiedoodles can weigh less than 15 pounds. Medium sized Aussiedoodles vary widely from 20 to 45 pounds. Furthermore, a standard Aussiedoodle can weigh over 45 pounds.

What colors do Aussiedoodles come in?

Even for dogs from the same litter, there are many color variations that you can find. For instance, the most common colors are black and white, phantom black and tan, black and red, tri-colored, blue merle, red merle, red sable, red and white, cinnamon merle, silver, and cream.

What is an Aussie Mountain Doodle and what are they like?

Aussie Mountain doodles are a combination of Bernese Mountain dog, Poodle and Australian Shepherd. They are also sometimes called Aussie Bernedoodles , Australian Mountain doodles or even just Mountain doodles. combination. We are currently breeding F1 mini (first generation) Aussiedoodle with an F1 mini Bernedoodle.  We think this is the best of both worlds, if you can't decide between an Aussiedoodle and a Bernedoodle. By choosing parent dogs with the temperament characteristics we want to see in the future, we select for dogs that are confident, medium and lower energy, mellow, loving, trainable and sociable. We do not want to see too much stubbornness, herding or high energy in our dogs.

What size do Aussie Mountain Doodles come in?

Our Aussie Mountain doodles should be between 15-20 lbs much like the size of our micro mini Bernedoodles.  By breeding Multigenerational Bernedoodles and Aussie mountain doodles, we will have less variation in their sizes than if we were starting with parent dogs as their original breeds. Breeding full size Bernese mountain dogs with miniature poodles can have huge variation in pup sizes. They could be closer in size to either parent, just like in humans, you will have less control as a breeder with predicting adult size.

What colors do Aussie Mountain Doodles come in?

Just as our Bernedoodles, our Aussie Mountain Doodles will come in several different color varieties.  From black and white to exotic marbled merles, our Australian Mountain Doodles colors all depend on the parenting.

What are Aussie Mountain Doodles coats like?

Bernedoodle and Aussie Mountain doodle coats can range from straighter to wavy to curly. This has to do with the curl gene. Puppies within a litter may have slightly more curl than others due to Mendelian inheritance patterns. Their coats also range from softer to more coarse. The softer the coat, the more it will mat. The coarser coats are much easier to brush out. So while extremely soft feels nicer, it is also more work. Doodles all require regular grooming.

What is a Cavapoo?

The Cavapoo is a crossbreed that results from breeding a Poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Cavapoos were initially created to be hypoallergenic dogs and thus the ideal companion for people with allergies. However, their sweet disposition and friendliness soon made them popular among all dog lovers.

Because the Cavapoo is a crossbreed, every dog is unique, though it has become increasingly more consistent in terms of temperament and looks. Cavapoos are extremely social and easy-going, getting along well with humans and animals alike.

Discussion on Color Fading with time

An important conversation. Many Bernedoodles and Doodles in general fade.  Why? There is a fading gene that has yet to be identified that is carried in the Poodle lines. Some Poodles fade, some don't. Some breeders are striving to bring a gene referred to as the RUFUS gene into their lines. This unidentified gene is thought to be responsible for the darkening with age seen in some red Poodles. It is a beautiful thing. We would LOVE to bring this into our program and get rid of fading. But here is the reality: breeders need to make choice in breeding priorities. What should be more important? Reducing hip dysplasia or reducing fade? Breeding for bomb proof temperaments or for a particular color? Breeding for good structure that will result in less arthritis long term for your dog or the perfect non-shedding coat? It is very difficult to have it all and try to select for it all at the same time. Everyday breeders struggle to balance their priorities. We have decided that health, temperament and structure are our priorities. If we can reduce fading and optimize the perfect coat and colors, BONUS! These are the priorities that we have chosen and we hope to find puppy families that value the first three above pure physical appearance. We are breeding to produce low-shedding, easy "to live with" companion dogs who have better health outcomes throughout their hopefully longer lives.  We hope you will love them no matter if their coat darkens or lightens with age.
